Preparing for the Move - Nehemiah 7:4-73
Summary: As Grace City prepares for a Sunday location move, this sermon from Nehemiah 7 reminds us how God uses times of transition to deepen our trust and reshape our identity in Him. God anchored His people in His vision for the future and His faithfulness in the past, which fueled His calling to them in the present. In the same way, God's grace toward us first is the fuel we need to give ourselves to sacrificial service, holiness, and generosity as we follow Him into new spaces. Times of transition are not just about logistics and details, they are divine opportunities to give away the grace we’ve first received. 5 Conversation Starters: 1. Nehemiah was able to discern what was pleasing to God because he was familiar with God's promises and was sensitive to the Spirit's leading. Why is it easy at times to move forward without fully considering what is pleasing to God in a decision? Follow-up: How might developing the habit of praying "not my will, but yours, be done" (Luke 22:42) change the way we pray? 2. Why do you think Nehemiah looked back at a century-old list to prepare for the future? Follow-up: Can you think of a time when remembering God's faithfulness in your past helped you face something uncertain? 3. How does remembering what Jesus has already accomplished for you in the gospel help you face seasons of uncertainty or transition? Follow-up: What are some practical tips to help remind you of these truths in a moment of anxiety? 4. Nehemiah’s list showed a people marked by service, holiness, and generosity. How do those three traits show up in our lives and in Grace City Church? Follow-up: Which of those do you think is easiest for you to be faithful in, and which one do you want to grow in? 5. What’s one area of your life where you feel God might be calling you to step out of your comfort zone? Follow-up: What would it look like to trust Him more in that area, and what’s one small step you could take this week?
