The Battle for the Believer’s Mind - Nehemiah 6:1-19
• Joshua Earl • Series: Nehemiah: Renewal of the Remnant
Summary: This sermon explores Nehemiah 6 as a vivid picture of spiritual warfare, highlighting how Satan, though already defeated, relentlessly attacks the minds of believers through distraction, accusation, and deception. Like Nehemiah, we are called to resist these attacks not with aggression or fear, but with faithful, step-by-step obedience to God’s Word. Through Jesus’ victory on the cross, we too can stand firm, reject godless logic, and stay focused on the mission God has given us. 5 Conversation Starters: 1. When you're trying to focus on something important, what kind of distractions usually pull your attention away? Follow-up: Nehemiah faced repeated distractions but kept saying, “I am doing a great work and cannot come down.” What might that look like for us in our daily lives? 2. The sermon talked about “godless logic” and how Satan plants false thoughts to derail us in our Christian walk. How can we learn to spot and challenge "spam messages" that don’t align with God’s truth? Follow-up: Why do you think we tend to spend too much time ruminating over false accusations? 3. Why do you think Nehemiah didn’t feel the need to defend himself when he was falsely accused? Follow-up: What can we learn from his response about handling criticism or gossip, especially when it threatens our identity or reputation? (see v9) 4. How can we tell if a decision or thought honors the Lord? Follow-up: Why is it so tempting to choose what feels safe or satisfying (like protecting our reputation or indulging a desire) instead of obeying God? 5. What do you think it means to take “the next faithful step” when life feels confusing or hard? Follow-up: How does trusting in God’s faithfulness (especially in the cross of Christ!) help us move forward even when we feel weak or uncertain?
